In the early versions of Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda stated, "An urgent need on this war-torn earth is the founding, on a spiritual basis, of numerous world-brotherhood colonies." Since 1969, based on the inspirations of our teachers, Sunburst has supported the creation and development of communities based upon spiritual practice, fellowship, and simple, natural living. Such communities, whether based in rural or urban areas, can spread healing and help bring positive direction to our world.

In community life, as we offer our life and love in service to the Divine every day, the collective intention strengthens each individual's effort to nurture the presence of God within, and spiritual awakening is quickened.

Members of Sunburst Communities meditate together daily, practice the Sunburst teachings, help caretake the grounds, and work in various enterprises, some of which include: our certified organic farms, natural animal husbandry, beekeeping, weaving and craftsmanship, construction, and natural foods marketplaces.
